Wonderful news! Temple Emanuel is thrilled to announce that Gerri Chizeck has become our Managing Director. She’ll be responsible for both the day-to-day operations and long-term planning of the synagogue. Gerri arrives here with extensive experience as an administrator and educator. Welcome Gerri!
Rabbi Dean says: “Our Search Committee reviewed many resumes and spoke with several candidates. Gerri stood out because of her warmth, professional background, attention to detail and life-long commitment to Reform Judaism. We knew she’d be a great match for Temple Emanuel!”
A Bit About Gerri:
After a four year adventure living in the cold of Portland, Maine, Gerri Chizeck is embracing the warmth of both the climate and the culture here in Arizona and at Temple Emanuel. She has spent most of her career leading vibrant, progressive schools, including the last fourteen in Jewish Day Schools.
Gerri holds a BA from Antioch College, an MA in administration and human development from Pacific Oaks College, and completed all coursework for a doctorate in administration at USC, earning the top tier administrative credential. Gerri grew up in the Reform movement, becoming active through NFTY and her local youth group in a small congregation in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Throughout her life she has remained connected to the movement in varied ways, including serving on the Board of the Progressive Association of Reform Day Schools and leading a Reform Day School in Baltimore.
It is Gerri’s mission to lead with love, trust, and imagination, and to apply Reform Jewish values and her own deep and varied experience to her work with Temple Emanuel of Tempe. She hopes to bring her administrative expertise and love of working with varied constituencies to enhance our congregation. She is looking forward to meeting each member of Temple Emanuel as well as reaching out to the community at large.
With many thanks to the Search Committee, chaired by Susan Karesky, for its diligent and thoughtful work.
