Submitted by Sal Caputo, MOE board member
The Men of Emanuel has a new president for the new programming year that starts in August. Here’s the introductory message he sent via Facebook:
“I’m the new sheriff in town. Recently elected as the president of MOE ( Men of Emanuel).
“I’m looking for one more Deputy to help run things around these parts. I’m needing a Deputy of Fun! Or the more stodgy and official title VP of Social Activities.
“I’ve heard the population of cowboys at Emanuel is about 350. So you are already a member. Come join the posse and help come up with ideas to entertain them there cowboys.
“You can reach me by Pony Express at [email protected] or by Telegraph at 480-200-7297
“If you don’t want to be a bigwig, stay tuned to his channel for upcoming events like Poker Night, Football (watching, not playing), etc. and come join the fun camaraderie.
“And if you’re a Cowgirl reading this, let your pard’ner know about us.”
The stodgy details: The MOE board met June 14 to fill officer posts left open during the election held March 4. At that time, Bob Jastrow stepped up to be interim president, so Harry Melamed succeeds him. In addition to Harry, the MOE board now consists of Darryl Lerner, first vice president (second term); Jeffrey Keene, vice president of membership (second term); Josh Rothberg, vice president of fundraising; Bob, treasurer (second term); Steve Ochs, member at large (second term); and Sal Caputo, member at large (first term). This leaves the secretary and social activity posts unfilled, as Harry stated anyone who’d like to volunteer to fill those posts should contact him.
Welcome Back Breakfast: MOE will host a bagel breakfast on the first Sunday of religious school, Sunday, Aug. 12. The whole Temple Emanuel community is invited to enjoy bagels, coffee and other breakfast treats and reconnect with one another after our summer break.
Blood drives: The United Blood Services Bloodmobile will be in front of the Temple on Sunday, Aug. 26, from 8 a.m. to noon. It’ll be a very important drive going into the Labor Day holiday when the need for blood is always critical. To sign up, just click: https://bloodhero.com/index.cfm?group=op&expand=774927&zc=85283
If you have any questions or need help signing up, email [email protected] This is the first of three drives scheduled for the 2018-2018 program year. The other drives will be on Dec. 16, 2018; and April 14, 2019.
What is MOE? MOE stands for Men of Emanuel, a group for all men in the Temple Emanuel community. MOE does not have membership fees, so all adult male members of the Temple are automatically MOE members. To get on MOE’s mailing list, email MOE’s president, Harry Melamed, at [email protected] You can find MOE on Facebook. Look for “MOE Men of Emanuel” and join the group to keep with all our doings.
