Men of Emanuel started in the summer of 2007 with an organizing meeting at Milt Newman’s residence. We have completed 11 years or service to the Temple Emanuel community. In that time, MOE has established itself as an active men’s club ready to help the synagogue with tasks from maintenance to staffing the grill (not mention donating the grill itself) at the Purim carnival.
Some of MOE’s activities have actually become traditions and focal points around the Temple: MOE Schmoozes, Café Emanuel, Poker nights and the Hanukkah Raffle easily come to mind.
This year, we made our biggest donation ever to the camp scholarships ($1,750) and we hope to increase that in the coming year. We fund these donations through the Hanukkah Raffle and operations at Café Emanuel, which runs during religious school hours on Sunday mornings. The Café is a place where members of the community mix, mingle, schmooze and relax between the comings and goings of the students.
The Welcome Back Breakfast on the first Sunday of religious school is another tradition for us, and we hope you’ll join us for breakfast that day in far-off August. For now, we extend our best wishes for a safe and restful summer. Wherever your travels take you, may you have peace and joy, and get back to us in August for another year of camaraderie and service.
Blood drives: We want to thank everyone who stepped up to give blood on Sunday, April 29. United Blood Services reported that we collected 22 life-saving units of blood to help those in our community who need a transfusion. It’s never too early to sign up for the next drive. We have a full slate of three drives scheduled for the 2018-2018 program year. The dates are all Sundays: Aug. 26, 2018; Dec. 16, 2018; and April 14, 2019. What is MOE? MOE stands for Men of Emanuel, a group for all men in the Temple Emanuel community. MOE does not have membership fees, so all adult male members of the Temple are automatically MOE members. To get on MOE’s mailing list, email MOE’s president, Harvey Reiss, at [email protected] You can find MOE on Facebook. Look for “MOE Men of Emanuel” and join the group to keep with all our doings.
