I recently had the immense pleasure of attending Body & Soul at Temple Emanuel of Tempe and providing information about the organization that I am lucky enough to be associated with: About Care. Wonderful Rabbi Dean Shapiro invited me to attend and is also allowing me to provide additional information in this article. I was so impressed by the energy and people that I met.
About Care is a nonprofit serving our neighbors in Chandler, Gilbert and Queen Creek who are homebound. About Care delivers caring, compassionate support services such as transportation (primarily to medical related appointments), shopping/errands, minor home repairs, reassurance phone calls, friendly visits, computer assistance and respite care through trained volunteers at no cost to the client. The organization was created twelve years ago in response to the growing demand for the elderly and physically challenged homebound residents in the East Valley.
We are always in need of volunteers. About Care expanded its services to 7 days a week, so even if you work, there is always opportunity to help someone in our community! Our goal is to help our neighbors remain in their homes, meet their basic needs, live with self-respect and dignity while encouraging independence.
In the past year, About Care volunteers provided 25,043 services, donated 46,081 hours and drove over 381,672 miles.
The services are provided without charge by trained and insured volunteers. About Care is looking for volunteers with big hearts who really want to help others. For more information or to obtain a volunteer application, visit www.aboutcare.org. The About Care volunteers do “small things with great love” and are compassionate, caring individuals who want to make a difference in someone’s life by offering their time.
