Dear Temple Emanuel Community,
We are delighted to share that Suzanne Guinane has been hired as our next Soloist/Music Director. She was offered the position after an extensive search process, including a visit to our community. While here, Suzanne impressed the Search Committee, congregational representatives, children, and staff with her gentle and graceful nature, genuine interest in people, devotion to Reform Judaism, professionalism and, of course, her musical ability. Our preschool and religious school students loved singing with her! She will join our community at the end of June.
Suzanne will be moving to Arizona from New Jersey. She has served two East Coast congregations as Cantorial Soloist: Congregation M’kor Shalom in Cherry Hill and also Reform Congregation Keneseth Israel in Elkins Park, PA. Currently at Temple Adath Emanu-El in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey, she teaches Hebrew in grades 4 – 6, coordinates the Lapid Program and Teen Night, leads High Holy Day services for grades 3 – 6, mentors junior song leaders, leads t’filah, and tutors b’nei mitzvah students. Suzanne is a member of the Women Cantors Network and the Guild of Temple Musicians. She is the 1998 recipient of the Women’s Way Recognition Award.
Suzanne received her Bachelor of Science in Music Education from West Chester University with a major in voice and minor in piano, was awarded an Apprenticeship with the Pennsylvania Opera Theater in her senior year and has taught Early Childhood through High School music in the New Jersey public school system and Religious Schools.
For Suzanne, being a Cantorial Soloist is the perfect melding of her love for music, teaching and Judaism. She also believes music is a universal language that can unite and heal us.
Sincere thanks to the Soloist Search Committee: Chairperson Alan Kannel and members Carolyn Abraham, Chuck Gealer, Cindy Weschrob, Dana Spiel, Grant Shapiro, Kathy Baldwin, Keelan Bodow, Ruth Aron, and Sal Caputo. The group worked together magnificently.
