Good Bye 2017 Hello 2018. Are you ready for 2018? We are!
Here are some of the things we have been working on. Make sure you save the dates and join us. There is something for everyone!
Lilith Salon – More free-flowing than a book club, less ‘spiritual’ than a Rosh Hodesh group and more intimate than a lecture, Lilith salons are a quarterly Jewish modern feminist discussion group for a warm evening of discussion of articles in Lilith Magazine (http://lilith.org). Open to Temple Emanuel members and Sisterhood members. Lilith Salon will be held on December 4th. Please contact Laurel Ginsburg for more information, time, and address. Laurel can be reached at [email protected]. This quarter’s theme is “My Body Divine ” from 6:45 p.m. to 8 p.m.
JFCS It’s a Wrap – Sisterhood is proudly participating in the Jewish Family and Children’s Services Holiday program again this year. We are sponsoring a single mom and her two children. See our facebook page, singupgenius, or contact me if you would like to get involved.
Sisterhood’s Chanukah Party – Save the Date – Sunday, December 17. This “organized” pot luck dinner, with a gift exchange is held at a member’s home. No Charge to attend. The only requirement is a dish to share, a New, wrapped gift to participate in the Gift Exchange, and a willingness to have fun. And of course, our own freshly made latkes. More information and RSVP will be sent to you soon! Watch your inboxes carefully!
Chili Chili Bang Bang – Join Sisterhood and Programming for this adult night out on January 20, at the Temple. Do you make the best Chili around? Let’s compare! More information to follow.
Bingo – The most widely attended, most popular event of our year. Mark your calendars and join us on Saturday evening, March 3 for Bingo. We will have pizzas to purchase for dinner. Bring your own NON-Alcoholic beverages and desserts. Lots of prizes and lots of fun.
Sisterhood Shabbat – Join us for Sisterhood Shabbat on March 9. Dinner, Services, and an Oneg.
If you would like to help with either Sisterhood Shabbat or Bingo, contact us at [email protected], Facebook message us, or contact a board member. These are our two largest events of the year and are always looking for people that would like to “get involved”, but aren’t really sure where to start.
Our Meetings – Our Sisterhood meetings are on the First Tuesday of every month at the Temple, 6:30 pm. All are welcome.
What We’ve Already Done – Now that you know what to look out for in the coming months, this is what we have already done in the last few months. Hopefully you joined us, but if not, this is what you missed:
- Made a significant donation to the Temple to help with budgetary expenses
- Provided Break-The-Fast after concluding services at Yom Kippur services
- Held a literary discussion from Lilith Magazine
- Fed the homeless
- Assisted other temple committees with their events
- Worked alongside the Programming committee creating “Sips and Sukkoth”, an adult only evening for Havdalah and socializing
- And we held our first, and hopefully not last Painting Party. We gathered at Temple on a Sunday afternoon and learned to paint, well some of us learned to paint, and others of us just had fun trying….Everyone that attended is looking forward to another painting party next year. This was a relaxing fun afternoon, a chance to take a break from our busy schedules.
Our “calendar” of events is on the Temple website. Take a look and see what peaks your interest. Watch your email inbox or join our facebook page for updates on events as well. You can always reach out to us at [email protected].
What is Sisterhood? – Sisterhood is not just about “events”. Sisterhood is a fundraising organization, an educational resource, a social action hub, a connection to other women both in Temple and outside of Temple, and an entertainment center. We are all of those things, all wrapped up in one. It is also part of a world-wide organization which promotes Jewish Women’s voices and goals. Temple Emanuel Sisterhood is a member of the Women of Reform Judaism Organization, which is an affiliate of the Union for Reform Judaism. WRJ has Sisterhoods all over the world. When you join TES, you have joined a world-wide organization, with far reaching arms. WRJ raises funds and awareness, it helps to support NFTY (and thereby our own TETY), rabbinical colleges, and Jewish Camps. Its not too late to join TES and WRJ: https://templeemanuel.formstack.com/forms/sisterhood_membership
Camp Newman in Northern California is very near and dear to our Pacific District WRJ affiliates. As most of you have heard, Camp Newman was severely damaged by the recent fires. WRJ PD is doing a major fundraiser to help rebuild Camp Newman so the future generations will be able to have the same wonderful experiences as the previous generations. Your support is greatly appreciated. Please click on the link here if you would like to contribute, or learn more about how WRJ is helping. https://donorbox.org/support-t-2.
