Dear Temple Emanuel Community,
I am THRILLED to introduce you to Cara Gelbart, our new Youth Advisor! She’s a magnificent addition to our team, charged with creating social and learning opportunities for TETY, our youth group for 5th – 12th graders.
By day, Cara is a Speech Pathologist. Her professional focus is helping children with autism expand their capacity for communication. She holds a Masters in Communication Disorders and a Bachelors in Speech and Hearing Sciences, both from ASU.
As a teen, Cara founded a Jewish Youth Group in the Tucson area. She then became its president. In that capacity, she’s been very involved in NFTY (National Federation of Temple Youth, the Reform Movement’s youth division), and our South West Division. Learn more about NFTY here: nfty.org/
Cara is warm, gentle, and smart. She is passionate about Jewish culture and values, and deeply committed to children’s healthy development. Our high school board members LOVED meeting her, and they are very eager to work with her.
Cara will create events that are FUN & SOCIAL, and that also contain elements of Jewish culture.
Cara will attend the Fall Kallah this coming weekend. That’ll be her first chance to work with our TETY Board, comprised of High Schoolers. Together, they’ll create a schedule of events.
Younger students, in 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, will get to meet Cara on Sunday, October 29. We’ll have an event immediately following Religious School. Lunch will be served – I hope you can attend!
Keep an eye out for upcoming activities. We’ve got a lot of great ideas, including some travel for our 7th and 8Th graders.
