MOE started its 10th year of existence (our 10th anniversary is next summer, more to come on that) with a pretty good bang.
- Our Welcome Back Breakfast brought hundreds of Temple Emanuel bagel fans together in the Social Hall on Aug. 11. Thanks to Arnie Maltz, Jeff Keene, Steve Ochs, Mel Kessler, Tony Calabretti, Michael Cohen, Harry Melamed, Jeffrey Reiss, Andrew Spiel, Jeff Schwarz, Matt Prezant, Scott Robinson and Richard Weschrob for their work on another successful breakfast.
- Cafe Emanuel started the following week, selling out of bagels and doughnuts and providing the best hangout for Religious School parents. Thanks to Jeffrey Reiss, Harry Melamed and Bob Jastrow for handling the sales that day.
- Then, our first blood drive on Aug. 27 was another success, reaching 144 percent of our goal. A hearty thank you to all donors!
- We followed up with a fine turnout for our annual Monday Night Football Kickoff on Sept. 11. Kudos to Michael Cohen for booking Good Time Charli’s in Chandler. The service was good, the TV screens were large, and the setup made it easy for everyone to chat and enjoy the football and camaraderie.
What’s Next? We’ll be building the Temple’s Sukkah at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 1. Come and help, there’s a free bagel and coffee from Cafe Emanuel in it for all the builders. Then, we’ll be taking the Sukkah down at 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 15. Our next MOE Schmooze is coming up at 9 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 12.
Hanukkah Raffle: Buy your raffle tickets in November for the annual Hanukkah Raffle. Watch your email and the Temple Facebook page for details.
Sign up for Café Emanuel: Our volunteer-run café sells bagels, doughnuts, coffee and other breakfast goodies from 8:30 a.m. to 11: 30 a.m. every Sunday that Religious School is in session. Sign up for a shift, not only is it for a good cause (Jewish camp scholarships) but it’s fun, too: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080c45aeaa238-caf
What is MOE? MOE stands for Men of Emanuel, a group for all men in the Temple Emanuel community. MOE does not have membership fees, so all adult male members of the Temple are automatically MOE members. To get on MOE’s mailing list, email MOE’s president, Harvey Reiss, at [email protected] You can find MOE on Facebook. Look for “MOE Men of Emanuel” and join the group to keep with all our doings.
