I am composing this article the day of our Sisterhood Board of Directors annual “retreat”. This is the time we set goals for the upcoming year and beyond. This is the time we try to figure out how to reach those goals – always a challenge in any organization. We are no different. Year after year, one of our primary goals is to increase membership, and to become a more vibrant, integral part of our Temple community. We asked ourselves, why are we so committed to Sisterhood? What brought us together? The answers are unanimous: Support – Friendship – Acceptance without judgment – Connections – Being part of a larger (WRJ) organization that works to heal the world. How do we reach our goals, by reaching out to you, our Temple members. There really is something for every woman at Temple Emanuel Sisterhood. You just need to make the connection.
Our “calendar” of events is on the Temple website. Take a look and see what peaks your interest. We are also on Facebook. Watch your inbox for email updates on events as well. You can always reach out to us at [email protected].
WRJ Pacific District Area Day – For the first time, Sisterhood chapters from Reform synagogues in Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and West Texas will come together to share in fun and learning at Temple Emanuel! Festivities begin with Temple Emanuel’s Kabbalat Shabbat services on Friday evening, August 4th with a dinner to follow. Saturday’s Area Day consists of lectures, workshops, activities, Havdalah, meals, and more! Sunday concludes with a morning of Bunco. If you haven’t signed up yet, it isn’t too late. click here.
You do not need to be a member of Sisterhood to experience Area Day, but it helps! Join Sisterhood here!
Bunco – is our traditional Welcome Back event. Every year I hear how much fun it is. No prior knowledge of Bunco is needed. Join us for Bunco, Berries, and Bears! Come to Temple, bring a new stuffed bear for our Mitzvah Project, enjoy a bagel, mingle and have some fun. Maybe even win a prize or two. Sign up for Bunco Here
Lilith Salon – More free-flowing than a book club, less ‘spiritual’ than a Rosh Hodesh group and more intimate than a lecture, Lilith salons are a quarterly Jewish modern feminist discussion group for a warm evening of discussion of articles in Lilith Magazine (http://lilith.org). Open to Temple Emanuel members and Sisterhood members. Lilith Salon will resume on September 11. Please contact Laurel Ginsburg for more information, time, and address. Laurel can be reached at [email protected].
Yom Kippur Break Fast – Sisterhood will be sponsoring our Break Fast after concluding services at Yom Kippur. If you would like to help out, please contact us at [email protected]. Otherwise, stop at the table and enjoy a slice of challah, a cookie, and a drink.
Our Meetings – Our Sisterhood meetings continue this year on the First Tuesday of every month at the Temple, 6:30 pm. All are welcome.
